Hearing Protection for Shooting & Hunting
Hearing Protection for Shooting & Hunting
Serious protection. Every shot matters.
Whether you're at the range or spending a day in the field, protecting your hearing is essential. Gunfire produces intense impulse noise, and even a single unprotected shot can cause hearing damage.
Fluid™ earplugs combine lab-tested NRR 25 noise reduction with a comfortable, inflatable design that conforms to your ear canal, helping provide a secure, consistent seal when it matters most.
- Reliable noise reduction — lab-tested NRR 25 protection (ANSI S3.19), with an inflatable tip that conforms to your unique ear canal.
- Quick and easy to use — insert and press to inflate. No rolling foam with cold, dirty or gloved hands.
- Secure, comfortable fit — soft, flexible silicone designed to stay comfortably seated during movement and extended wear.
- Works with earmuffs — a low-profile design that can be worn beneath earmuffs for an additional layer of hearing protection. Note both OSHA and NIOSH recommend double protection (earplugs plus muffs) when shooting. See below.
- Ready for repeated use — durable, washable and reusable, whether you're at the range or out in the field.
Protect your hearing. Enjoy every outing.
Important: Always use double hearing protection when shooting
Firearms produce extremely high impulse noise that can cause permanent hearing damage. Both the US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommend double hearing protection, combining earplugs with earmuffs, to protect against hazardous firearm noise.
Fluid™ earplugs provide lab-tested NRR 25 noise reduction (ANSI S3.19) but should always be worn together with suitable earmuffs when shooting. Ensure both are correctly fitted and follow all applicable range safety requirements.
Official sources:
- NIOSH — Firearms and Hearing Protection (PDF) — explicitly recommends that hunters and shooters use both earplugs and earmuffs every time a firearm is discharged.
- OSHA — 140 dB Impact/Impulse Policy under the Noise Standard (2025) — states that single hearing protection may not be adequate where weapons-firing noise exceeds 140 dB, and points to double hearing protection, citing NIOSH’s dual-protection recommendation.
