Undergraduate-Level Engineering Intern

Responsibilities

  • Make earplug parts and assemble them into working earplugs
  • Design, fabricate, and assemble test fixtures
  • Perform measurements of earplug performance using test fixtures, microphones, and various noise sources
  • Perform measurements to calibrate and characterize the performance of electronic components and assemblies including microphones, accelerometers, and other sensors
  • Document measurement and analysis procedures and write up results
  • Order and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies

Requirements

  • Minimum three years coursework in Mechanical Engineering, Acoustical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
  • Laboratory experience, especially with electronic measurements
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with a team as well as independently

Nice-to-haves

  • CAD/CAE experience, especially with Autodesk Fusion 360
  • Experience programming and taking measurements with LabVIEW
  • Experience programming and analyzing data with MATLAB
  • Experience with electrical tools: multimeter, function generator, oscilloscope, soldering iron
  • Knowledge of microphones, loudspeakers, audio amplifiers, acoustic treatment
  • Knowledge of electronic circuits and circuit theory
  • Interest in audio, audiology, hearing protection, and/or hearing augmentation
